Did you know you can make these cute animal crafts from an empty egg carton? As we are all home-bound and limited in our ability to visit craft stores, it is useful to re-use and re-cycle material from essential items such as egg cartons, pastas, and cardboard tubes.

In this recycled craft, we used egg cartons to make a funky monkey, a naughty panda, and a cutie tiger. With just a scissor and some colorful paint, your child can make adorable animal figurines that they can use during pretend play or as countertop decorations in their rooms.

Popsicle Stick Penguin Craft

Who doesn't love penguins? Kids love to watch penguins waddle and often imitate them.

If you have started planning for winter theme projects, penguins are a perfect winter craft for preschoolers and kindergarteners.

On our recent visit to Woodland Zoo in Seattle, we got a chance to see a whole host of Penguins sunbathing and feeding. Our daughter really enjoyed watching them walk and take an occasional dive into the water.

When it was time to ask her what she wanted to make as a craft to share in her class, she immediately answered "Penguin!"

Who doesn’t love a book by Dr. Seuss? Whether it’s Cat in The Hat, Fox in Socks, What pet should I get and so on..

Almost every parent has introduced their kids to reading using Dr. Seuss books. Books like Dr. Seuss ABC and Hop on Pop are great to introduce alphabets/basic phonics and the rhyming nature of these books make it fun to read aloud. These books have super fun and engaging illustrations.

If you looking for a book for Christmas, I would strongly recommend ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. It’s an all time Christmas classic book for kids written by Dr.Seuss on how the effects of the Christmas spirit will grow even the coldest and smallest of hearts. It has a great message encouraging kids to grow their heart by doing good things and discover the true meaning of this holiday.

My daughter loved reading this book, so we decided to make this cute and easy Grinch Ornament for Christmas. We love to recycle stuff at home for craft projects. For this recycled craft, we decided to use disposable plastic spoons we have been saving. Plastic spoons make a great craft material. Cardboard Tube Monsters Halloween Craft

Warming up for Halloween with these cute little monsters :)

This Halloween is special. Why? Because my daughter is now two years old and this is the first Halloween where she can actually understand and participate in all the Halloween hoopla!

Now, she is too young for the seriously spooky things so I decided to introduce Halloween to her with these cute little cardboard tube craft monsters!

She knows that humans have two eyes, no horns, and regular teeth. So, seeing these outliers (one or three eyes, horns, saw-shaped teeth), she immediately gathered she was looking at some weird creatures that we happen to call monsters.

But, since they look funny and harmless she had a great time making this craft and then playing with these little new friends of her.

Flower Lamp Craft

Today is the Indian festival of lights (Diwali). It is said that Diwali is celebrated in honor of the return of Lord Rama from exile of 14 years after defeating evil demon Ravana. To honor and celebrate the return of the beloved hero and triumph of good over evil, people illuminated the path by lighting diyas (lamps).

To celebrate this auspicious day, my daughter and I made these beautiful flower shaped lamps to decorate our home. It is such a simple Diwali craft to make, my daughter had a great time painting the flower lamp and decorating it with lace. 

Two-year-olds have infinite energy and engaging them in festive crafts is a great way to teach them about the festival while helping them develop their creativity and keeping them away from the screen.  Try it out - we now have beautiful lamps to celebrate this festival of lights.

Colorful Hot Air Balloon Craft

Recently, we took our toddler to a birthday party. And, she got fascinated when a helium balloon she was holding flew out of her hand and went up up up into the sky.

Lo and behold,  her only motto thereafter in the party was to grab helium balloons and let them go up up up 😊

Cute And Easy Easter Basket Craft

Toy Story 4 Forky Craft

Have you seen the latest Disney animation movie Toy Story 4? My daughter is super excited about the new handmade toy called "Forky" joining the toy story 4 characters gang and wanted to make one herself.

So, we started to dig in our recyclables treasure box to find a spork and could only find a purple one. Hence our purple Forky :) ..Isn't it cute?

Holi Pichkari Craft

If you have read about India, you have surely heard of two big festivals - Diwali - the festival of lights and Holi - the festival of colours. It is not too presumptuous to guess that Holi is every Indian kid's favourite festival.

Holi allows little kids (and adults) to unleash their inner child, let go of all rules and have the time of their life with colours, balloons and pichkari (water syringe) . The most adorable and critical, being the pichkari, which comes in innumerable shapes and forms and becomes the weapon of choice for use against parents, uncle, aunties, and their little friends.

So, on the occasion of Holi 2018, we thought it did be apt to create a pichkari craft, so our little kid can learn about this wonderful colourful festival.

As they say - Don't mind, let it be bygone, it's Holi (Bura na maano, Holi hai).

Nick Wilde, The Charming Fox of Zootopia

Nick Wilde is a major character in the lovely Walt Disney movie - Zootopia. Our family has watched Zootopia many many times and we really enjoyed the nuanced characterizations in the movie.

Especially, our two-year-old toddler who has by now memorized the names of all the key characters in the movie - her favourite being Judy! No wonder Zootopia was declared the best-animated movie in Oscars 2017. It's just a very endearing movie.

Handprint Apple Tree Craft

Do you look for ways to use old newspapers and magazine brochure you get in your mailbox?

How about making a craft out of them? We always try to upcycle the materials at home to reduce waste and help our environment.

Here is a cute and easy craft made using magazine paper. This is a fun activity for kids to develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. And, the end result is a beautiful Apple Tree!

I am Groot!

Three simple words that expressed hundreds of emotions for the most lovable character in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie released in 2014. So this year, when "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" introduced the very cute baby Groot, this mom and tot team decided to immortalize it in our home as a craft.

To retain the natural roots of Groot, this craft was made with mostly natural, recycled and reused materials - extensive use of 100% natural jute was done over re-used plastic moulds. Even Groot's naughty eyes are made of lentils for extra credit.

We love this cute addition to our craft collection. This was certainly one of the harder creations so far but very much worth the time and effort.

HOW TO MAKE GROOT CRAFT?

MATERIALS:
Jute Twine
Ashland® Naturally Coiled Wire
Easter egg mould for face
Tooth-brush holder (lower part) for body
Green foam sheet
Mod Podge
Pair of lentil grains
Green+Yellow paint
White drawing paper
Hot Glue
Pencil
Scissor
Vase
Clay
Scrap Paper

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Trace and cut the shape for the head on a rectangular paper (15.5cm x 4.5cm) making a nice crown like shape as shown below.

2. Wrap the paper crown around the egg and glue it tightly to the egg using hot glue.

3. Cover the egg and crown with jute twine using mod podge. Let it dry.

4. Glue the black painted lentil eyes. Make eyebrow and mouth with jute twine.

5. For the body, wrap coiled wire around the bottom part of tooth-brush holder.

6. Wrap five strands of jute twine covering the coiled wire for hands. Leave a little extra twine at the end making the fingers. Tie with twine making a nice wrist to hold the fingers.

7. Add a couple of coiled wire strands on the body giving the look of heavier branches.

8. Make a few leaves from the green foam paper and glue them to the body & hands.

9. Hot glue the head to the body.

10. Lightly touch up the head and body with bright green color.

11. Your Groot is ready to be potted. You can fill the pot with scrap paper and then cover it with brown clay. Place the Groot nicely on the clay. Finally touch up the brown clay with bright green color.

Cardboard Tube Dog Puppet Craft for Kids

Dogs are arguably one of the first few animals that a baby is introduced to. So, it’s no surprise they hold a special place in children’s hearts and minds.

It’s endearing to hear them imitating the woof woof sounds and see them get super excited when they see the great diversity of sizes and color in dogs around them.

Cardboard Tube House Craft

There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home

These lines written nearly 200 years ago are as true as ever. Even more so, for our little tot, whose eyes light up as soon as we bring her home after some time outside. Home is where she can relax, be herself and go wild. And for us, having our tot loiter around us is what makes home that much more sweeter.

So, as a tribute, my tot and I decided to create this Home, Sweet Home craft this time. It was a lot of fun and I think it came out really well.

HOW TO MAKE CARDBOARD TUBE HOME CRAFT?

MATERIALS
Paper roll tube (1)
Green & Orange paper
Cardboard Piece (3.5"x2.5") - You can use empty cereal box.
Printed paper (3.5"x2.5")
Paint (red)
Paintbrush
Black sketch pen
Glue
Glue stick - optional
Ruler - optional

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: Paint the paper roll tube and let it dry.

Step 2: Make two angled cuts into one end of the tube to form a point.

Step 3: Make two cuts to create a rectangular door, as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Glue the printed paper on the cardboard piece and fold the cardboard in half.

Step 5: Draw windows onto colored paper (4 green and 1 orange) and cut them out.

Step 6: Attach the windows to the tube as shown in the picture

Step 7: Then set the folded cardboard on the pointed end as a roof.

Step 8: Glue on a bead for a doorknob.
