Easy Penguin Craft for Preschoolers

On our recent visit to Woodland Zoo in Seattle, we got a chance to see a whole host of Penguins sunbathing and feeding. Our daughter really enjoyed watching them walk and take an occasional dive into the water.

When it was time to ask her what she wanted to make as a craft to share in her class, she immediately answered "Penguin!"

1. Place seven popsicle sticks and glue eighth stick diagonally to hold them together as shown below. Let it dry.

2. Paint the popsicle sticks using black color.

3. Cut out the shape of the penguin's body and flippers from corrugated cardboard.

4. Paint the body cutout using white color and flippers using black color. Let them dry.

5. Once dried, glue the body and flippers on the popsicle sticks.

6. Glue googly eyes.

7. Cut out beak and feet from orange cardstock paper. Glue them on the penguin as shown below.

Earmuffs and hat are optional decorations. Since we were making this craft for the winter season, thought of giving that winter look to our cute penguins. If you would like to make them, here are the steps:

8. For earmuffs, cut out a piece of pipe cleaner and bend it slightly to make a curve. Glue pom-poms and snowflake jewels on both ends.

9. For the hat, cut out the shape of a hat from cardstock paper. Decorate the edge using washi tape and snowflake jewel. Finish the hat by gluing a pom-pom on top.

10. Glue the earmuffs and hat on the penguins.

These cute buddies are all set for winters. I hope you enjoy making this penguin craft with kids. Happy Crafting!
