HOW TO MAKE HEART BALLOONS USING PASTEL ART TECHNIQUE?

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE HEART BALLOON CARD WITH KIDS:

Cardstock Papers
Oil Pastel Colors
Black Marker
Masking Tape
Tissue paper or cotton balls (optional)
Heart Template

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE PASTEL ART HEART BALLOONS CARD:

Step 1: Fold a white cardstock paper into half.

Step 2: Download and print our heart template (under supplies) to get started. Template has heart shapes in different sizes. Cut out the heart shapes of sizes that best fit your folded card paper. If you don't have a printer at home, kids can also draw the heart shapes on a paper and cut them out.

Tip: Print the template on a cardstock paper so that it's easier for kids to work with after you stick them on the card in step 3.

Step 3: It's time to make the heart balloons using this pastel technique. Start with your first heart cutout. Masking/duct tape comes in super handy to stick the heart on the card and removes easily without spoiling the paper. If you don't have masking tape, don't worry just help your child to press down the heart cutout on the card with fingers so it doesn't move when tracing the heart with pastel colors.

Step 4: Draw thick line around the heart with oil pastels. Let your child choose colors for their heart balloons. Kids can even try making a multi-color heart if they like.

Step 5: Now is the most fun part for kids - let your child rub the pastel colors with fingers in the outward direction around the edge of heart. Some kids might not like to get messy, so they can either use a cotton ball or a piece of tissue paper for this step.

Step 6: Carefully take the template off to reveal your lovely heart pattern.

Step 7: Repeat steps 3-5 to make other heart balloons.

Step 8: When you're done making the pastel heart balloons, draw strings for the balloons using a black marker.

Step 9: To finish your heart balloons bouquet, draw a simple ribbon knot using a black marker.

Tip: Let your child draw the strings/ribbon using a pencil first and then use marker over it so that it's easier to correct the lines if needed.
