Rocking Beluga Whale Paper Plate Craft for Kids

Our toddler's favorite character from the Disney movie 'Finding Dory' was Bailey, the beluga whale. She loved him so much that the first thing she wanted to do on a recent visit to Chicago was to head straight to the Shedd Aquarium and watch the Beluga whales.

We all loved Bailey with his "oooooooo" echo-location voice. He was indeed a charming character in the movie. Our toddler visited the beluga exhibition three times in one visit and left the aquarium only after she had her own beluga fur toy to take home!

Today, we decided to make her favorite mammal "beluga" whale as our next rocking paper plate craft. We love how easy and fun rocking paper plate crafts are - last month, we made this cute and easy Rocking Elephant that turned out so beautiful.

HOW TO MAKE BELUGA WHALE CRAFT?

SUPPLIES

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Fold a paper plate into the half.

2. Trace the whale's outline on one side.

3. Start cutting out the whale's shape leaving the top part intact as shown below.

4. Cut out the lower part of the whale and the ocean.

Dad Child Crawl - Father's Day Craft

Dads love their children and children love their dads. It's the perfect play combination when dads get to be childish again and children get, well, a playmate whose sole objective is to entertain them.

Thinking about the upcoming Father's Day, it was great to be reminded of one of the most symbolic and fun child-dad activity - the horse-crawl - with daddy playing the crawl-horse and the child sitting on dad's back as the horse-rider. This sure brought back memories of laughter and joy in our own family.

Solar Eclipse Craft

What an exciting day it was in the United States today! A total solar eclipse was visible in a band of land across the entire contiguous United States from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts.

This one has been called the "Great American Eclipse". Thanks to NASA for the live streaming of this iconic event, I could watch it at home with my toddler.

We created this craft later so my little one could also understand what was really going on and what the big deal was all about. It seems she understands now so mission accomplished.

This is a simple STEM project for preschool and kindergarten kids. Science becomes so much fun and easy when explained through the crafts.

Sometime back, we made this Airplane Craft stem project which is very popular on our blog.

What's a better way to teach kids about an airplane than let them build one? Also, this interactive Calendar Craft was another easy STEAM activity to teach kids about the relationship between date, day and month in a simple, playful manner.

Who doesn't love Mickey Mouse? This lovely cartoon was created in 1928 and is one of the most recognizable characters today.

My toddler is a big fan of the entire Mickey Mouse family - Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald. Creating this Mickey Mouse craft was a great way to engage and entertain my daughter for an afternoon.

We went to Kauai (The Garden Isle of Hawaii) for our toddler's second birthday and fell in love with the place. The spectacular Na Pali coast, lush green drive to Ke'e beach, majestic waterfalls and beautiful beaches were the key attractions for us.

But, for our toddler, Kauai's feral chickens were of utmost interest. You can find roosters and hens with a brood of chicks literally everywhere in Kauai.

Inspired by Mayor Lionheart, a major character in the lovely Walt Disney movie - Zootopia. Our family has watched Zootopia many many times and we really enjoyed the nuanced characterizations in the movie. Especially, our two-year-old toddler who has by now memorized the names of all the key characters in the movie - her favorite being Judy! No wonder Zootopia was declared the best animated movie in Oscars 2017. It's just a very endearing movie.

We were watching the movie again yesterday!, and that inspired us to craft the noble but pompous character - Leodore Lionheart - the mayor of Zootopia!

Paper Plate Clock Craft

What time is it?

Learning to read analog clock can be challenging for kids. Teaching time through this easy clock craft can make it fun instead. In the process, introduce the numbers on a clock, the hour hand, and the minute hand. It's a great exercise for number sorting as well.

To double the fun for my daughter, we added her favorite Mickey Mouse cutout in the center. Here is how it looks like.

It's a Moo Moo Cow!

Another simple and cute craft that you can enjoy with your kids - Paper Plate Cow Craft. This came out really good. My daughter is getting better at her glueing skills and following the instructions for the craft. Eyes are critical for any animal craft you make. You might have noticed in her earlier crafts that I give her stickers to make eyes since she is still learning to use a pen. We ran out of stickers so I made the eyes with a pen for her craft this time.
